Deter Burglars With Home Window Security

What kind of windows do you have in your home? Single-hung? Double-hung? Casement? And how do they lock? Are they impossible to open from the outside?

You may choose windows for your home, based on energy efficiency and aesthetics, but to a burglar, the type of windows you have, and how they lock, will make your home more or less of a target. Burglars know that windows with simple latches for locks are relatively easy to open, and that the sidelights beside your front door, when they’re not reinforced, can be compromised without much difficulty.

Fortunately, there are many steps homeowners can take – like adding deadbolts or additional pins and locks – to improve window security.
